Privacy Policy

Nest ("Nest," "we," "us," "our") provides the Nest Chrome Extension and related services, including account and billing features. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have.

1. What this policy covers

  • Use the Extension features (tab organization, snoozing, backup/restore, notes).
  • Create or use a Nest account.
  • Use Autopilot (restart rescue, automatic sessions, duplicate cleanup, suspending and tidying away idle tabs, and the weekly summary).
  • Use billing/checkout/portal features.
  • Contact support.

2. Information we collect

A) Information you provide

  • Account information: email address and account credentials when you register or sign in.
  • Support communications: information you provide when contacting us.

B) Information the Extension processes locally

  • Tab management data: tab titles, URLs, window/tab identifiers, and grouping/categorization.
  • Snoozed tab data: scheduling information plus tab info required to restore.
  • Backup/restore data: saved session backups and restore metadata.
  • Notes: notes you create inside the Extension.
  • Autopilot data: the list of tabs open in each window, so Nest can tell which tabs a restart dropped; Automatic Sessions, the tabs of windows and tab groups you close; a record of each tab Autopilot closes, so it can be restored; and, while Suspend or Tidy away is on, the time you last switched to each page address (at most 2,000 addresses, the oldest replaced first), so Nest can tell which tabs are idle. Autopilot data is stored only in your browser's local storage and is never synced or uploaded.
  • Vault snapshots: local recovery copies of Backup, Categories, Sessions, and Notes. Vault snapshots never sync.
  • Incognito tabs: Nest never stores, backs up, syncs or snapshots tabs from incognito windows. Actions you start on them, such as closing duplicates or suspending tabs, work without saving anything.

C) Information sent to our servers

  • Authentication data: session tokens (JWT) and security metadata.
  • Entitlement/subscription state: plan status and billing-related status.
  • Cloud sync data (optional Pro): supported tab records, Categories, Sessions, and Notes sent to your account so they can reach your other signed-in installations.
  • Basic request metadata: IP address and timestamps used to deliver and secure server features.

D) Anonymous usage data (optional, on by default)

  • What is sent: the name of a feature event from a fixed list (for example "a tab was snoozed" or "the panel was opened"), the Extension version, and a timestamp.
  • Install identifier: a random identifier generated in your browser when you install the Extension. It is not derived from your device and is never linked to your account, email, or subscription.
  • What is never sent: web addresses, page titles, page content, note or session contents, search terms, and category names.
  • How often: events are batched and sent roughly every six hours; they are not sent in real time.
  • IP address: seen transiently by our server to rate-limit abuse of the endpoint, and not stored alongside the events.
  • Turning it off: Account → Privacy & Settings → "Share anonymous usage data". When off, nothing is collected and nothing is sent.

E) Nest Chat in versions before 1.8.0

  • Nest Chat was removed in version 1.8.0. Version 1.8.0 and later have no AI feature, send no chat requests and read no page content.
  • Until Chat is switched off on our servers, an installation still running an older version can send: text typed into Chat and recent chat history; the workspace context needed to answer; and page text and links, only after content reading was enabled and a content action was requested. These are processed by our LLM provider to produce the answer.
  • Chat history from an older version may remain in your browser's local storage until you sign out or uninstall the Extension.

3. How we use information

  • Provide core Extension functionality: tab organization, snoozing, backup/restore, notes, and Autopilot.
  • Provide account features: login, account management, verification, password reset, and security.
  • Provide optional Pro cloud sync: copy supported workspace data to your account and other signed-in installations.
  • Answer Nest Chat requests from versions before 1.8.0, until Chat is switched off (see section 2E).
  • Provide entitlement and billing features: enable paid features, manage trials/subscriptions.
  • Send account and billing emails, including a reminder three days before a free trial ends if no payment method is on file.
  • Improve reliability and prevent abuse: debugging, monitoring, rate limiting, fraud prevention.
  • Understand which features are used, in aggregate, so we can improve them — using the anonymous usage data described above, which you can switch off.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

4. How we share information

  • Service providers: hosting, payment processor (Stripe), email delivery, and an LLM provider for Chat requests from versions before 1.8.0 until Chat is switched off.
  • Legal/safety: we may disclose if required by law or to protect rights and security.
  • Business transfers: information may be transferred in mergers or acquisitions.
  • No human review by default: we do not access your data for routine operations.

5. Data storage and retention

  • Local storage: Core Extension data and Vault snapshots are stored in your browser's local storage. Vault snapshots are never uploaded through cloud sync. You can delete local data at any time.
  • Cloud sync: supported workspace data remains in your account while sync or the account is active and is handled under the account-deletion terms below.
  • Server-side: Account data retained while active, deleted within 30 days of verified deletion request.
  • Billing records retained as required for accounting and legal compliance.
  • Autopilot data: kept on your device only. Automatic Sessions are deleted after 7 days (30 days on Pro) unless you keep them as a saved Session; Tidied away sessions after 30 days on every plan; Autopilot's record of closed tabs after 7 days. Last-used times are kept for at most 2,000 page addresses, the oldest replaced first.
  • Chat data (versions before 1.8.0): limited logs retained up to 30 days for reliability and security.
  • Anonymous usage events: retained up to 12 months, then deleted. They contain no personal information and cannot be traced back to you.

6. Security

  • We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method is 100% secure.

7. Your choices and controls

  • Turn off any Autopilot rule, or its notifications, in the Extension's Account area.
  • Leave cloud sync off or sign out: Pro sync is optional.
  • Manage or delete local Extension data via browser settings.
  • Uninstall the Extension to remove local storage.
  • Access/update/delete your account in the Extension's account area.
  • Turn off anonymous usage data at any time in Account → Privacy & Settings.
  • Opt out of non-essential communications.

8. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

  • The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  • Nest uses browser data only to provide or improve its disclosed tab-management, sync and recovery features. It does not use or transfer user data for personalized advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or sale to data brokers.
  • Humans do not read user data except with the user's explicit consent for specific support, when necessary for security, when required by law, or after data has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
